Archives of Ontario Releases Ontario Vital Statistics

Prepared by E. B. Lapointe.

It was announced on July 21, 2006 that the Archives of Ontario and the Genealogical Society of Utah have released microfilms of Ontario Vital Statistics. The vital statistics are transferred on an annual basis from the Office of the Registrar General. The next years' registrations will be available some time in 2007.

They have released the following microfilm -

Indexes to Births and Stillbirths, 1909 Archives of Ontario Series RG 80-4, MS 931, Reel 21

(The birth register for the District of Patricia, due to retention periods in the archives agreement with the Ontario Registrar, will not be released until 2008); Indexes to Marriages, 1924 Archives of Ontario series RG 80-7, MS 934, Reel 22; and Indexes to Deaths, 1934 Archives of Ontario Series RG 80-10, MS 937, Reel 22.

The following registrations are also available -

Registrations of Deaths, 1934 Archives of Ontario Series RG 80-8, MS 935 Reels 478-496. The death record are arranged by year of death and alphabetically by last and first names. The province of Ontario did not register deaths before 1869. It may be advisable that you check cemetery transactions, church records, and estate wills held by the Surrogate and Probate Courts, as they are good sources of death records.
